The Al Ain Traffic Court has sentenced a Gulf national to three months in jail for performing dangerous stunts on a public road.

The erring driver, also involved in car drifts, was slapped with a hefty fine of Dh40,000, according to sources.

His driving license was also withdrawn, while confiscating his vehicle.

"The car he used in the gruesome traffic violation was confiscated, while the suspension of his driving license was ordered," sources said.

Court records show that the driver had intentionally performed serious stunts on the road posing a grave risk to road users' life and safety.

The Al Ain Police, alerted of the mishap after a video on the road stunt went viral on social media, summoned the driver, and referred him to the traffic prosecution. He was then brought to the Al Ain Traffic court.

The UAE has seen a number of such road stunts recently, and the public was warned against this kind of hazardous and illegal practices.

In August this year, three young drivers were arrested in Sharjah for performing road stunts and car drifts, as ordered by the Khor Fakkan Prosecution.

The trio were initially spotted by the Federal Investigation Bureau of the Public Prosecutor in a video that went viral on social media.

Alerted about the incident, the prosecution launched investigations, tracked down the young drivers, and arrested them.

The drivers - aged 23, 24 and 25 - have been placed in temporary detention.
