Westlife needs little introduction. The four-piece Irish boy band attracted success from the get-go, churning out hit after hit like ‘Swear It Again’ and ‘If I Let You Go’. Now, after 20 years of global heart-robbing and a seven-year hiatus, the group has embarked on the reunion ‘Twenty Tour’ and lucky for us, Dubai has made the list with a stop on 29 August.

When it came to releasing instant home runs, Westlife was a pro-league team of inevitable chart-toppers. So much so that they became Guinness World Record holders in the UK for the most singles to debut at number one and the top-selling album group of the 21st century. Even now, after taking a break in 2012, Westlife continues to defy all odds with over 55 million records sold worldwide and 550 million streams on Spotify.

Their show at Dubai’s newly inaugurated Coca-Cola Arena, which will also see star power performances in June by Russell Peters and Maroon 5, is bound to be the ultimate throwback. Get your sing-along game ready in advance with these five all-time Westlife classics:

5. World of Our Own

Distinctly fast-paced and dance-friendly, ‘World of Our Own’ is a joyful and catchy jingle with smooth vocals and endearing lyrics. It’s the kind of track you bop to walking down the street – especially when that infectious chorus rolls around.

4. Swear It Again

We can’t leave Westlife’s debut single out considering it set the tone for much of their success. This pop-rock track, which was the band’s top performer in the US, is the perfect tune to belt out with raw passion during a long drive.

3. Uptown Girl

Westlife came in strong with this electric cover of Billy Joel’s retro classic. They put a distinct 2000s spin on the track, blending the original catchy melody with superbly youthful vocals and a subtly accelerated beat.

2. You Raise Me Up

Originally by Irish-Norwegian duo Secret Garden, ‘You Raise Me Up’ got a second life when Westlife released it as part of their sixth album, Face to Face. Theirs was the only version to peak at number one on the UK singles chart. Soulful and mellow, this heartfelt track feels like being tucked into your favourite blanket.

1. Flying Without Wings

How could Westlife’s ultimate anthem ‘Flying Without Wings’ not make it to the list? Claiming the top spot in our hearts and minds, this slow ballad stands the test of time with earnest lyrics that lift you up and move you to the core.
