Gambit is one of the most popular X-Men, but he’s never had screen-time like Wolverine or Cyclops. That may be all about to change.

The film was supposed to release a year ago, but has gone through numerous delays. Star Channing Tatum, however, thinks that’s a good thing.

Speaking to HeyUGuys about the film, he said, “We lit a fuse on the first one and just blew it completely out of the water. I think we got lucky—we got hit with some setbacks and it was all for a good reason. We were trying to do something completely different. We were trying to do something that this genre of movie hasn't seen before. We kept running into the same problems, and then Deadpool and Logan came through and kicked the doors down. Now we're really getting to do some of the things we've always wanted to do with the scriptwe've just sort of started over.”

Deadpool and Logan proved that there is a market out there for R-rated superhero fare, something which the production crew on Gambit apparently wants.

Gambit—aka’d as “the White Devil”—can tap into potential energy stored within objects and transform it into kinetic energy, allowing him to, for example, use a pack of playing cards as dynamite. Taylor Kitsch gave it a go in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The film has seen a number of directors turn down the role and a number of others exit the project, including Doug Liman.

But that does beg the question:

Will the Gambit movie, about a Frenchman with white eyes, a stick, and a stack of playing cards, be R-rated? Between that, Deadpool 2, and a slew of horror X-Men films, where does that leave, you know, kids?
