MAD Distribution announces the theatrical release of the multi award winning feature film, Theeb, starting March 19th across the Arab World. The film will open in cinemas across Jordan, Lebanon and the UAE. From March 26th, it will go on a wider cinematic release across further countries.

Commenting on the release, Abdallah Al Shami, MAD’s Managing Partner for its GCC operations, said, “We are honoured to share this visual masterpiece with the Arab audience. The Arab world is a melting pot of cultures, so it was incredible to see how the audiences embraced the film during its festivals screenings in the region.”

Theeb’s director, Naji Abu Nowar, is thrilled to share his directorial debut with audiences around the Arab world; “For the last ten years our dream has been to make Arab Cinema and now we finally get the chance to share that dream with the Arab audience.

Set in the Arabian Desert of 1916, the film follows Theeb, a young Bedouin boy and his elder brother Hussein, as they leave the safety of their tribe to venture on a treacherous journey at the dawn of the Great Arab Revolt. If Theeb is to survive, he must quickly learn about adulthood, trust and betrayal.

Theeb received high critical acclaim from international and Arab media. Variety’s Film Critic Jay Weissberg singled out Theeb describing it as, “a classic adventure film of the best kind, boasting stunning locales in a well-told story about a young Bedouin boy outwitting potential enemies in the desert.”

Its director has been named "The Arab Filmmaker of the Year" by Variety Magazine. Theeb has been the juries and audiences’ favourite in festivals from around the world. The film is the first Jordanian feature to receive the Orizzonti Award for Best Director at Venice Film Festival. It has also received a Special Mention at BFI London Film Festival, which was followed by the New Horizons Best Film from the Arab World Award and the FIPRESCI Award for Best Narrative Film at Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

Theeb also received a Certificate of Appreciation within Prospects of Arab Cinema section at the Cairo International Film Festival and Best Directorial Debut Award at the Directors' Debuts Competition within the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography (CAMERIMAGE) in Poland.
