Egyptian TV’s guardian bureaucrats have refused to allow the historical series Al Aqdar (Destiny) to be translated into Hebrew.
The series, which was written by Najib Mahfouz and translated into French and English, will in the meantime be translated into Spanish at the request of several European and American satellite channels.
“Translating the series into Hebrew will be of no use when aired in Europe and the US, and also won’t be feasible from the marketing point of view. This is in addition to the patriotic side of the matter, which cannot be overlooked despite the fact that the series includes a direct response to Israeli claims…casting doubt on the fact that the Pyramids were built by the Pharaohs,” one TV official told Al Sharq Al Awsat.
The series depicts the Pharaonic era through the life of King Khofo, who wants to kill the newborn baby Horas.
The king mistakenly kills another baby without recognizing that Horas lives in his palace. The king helps Horas to assume a leading position in the country, with destiny controlling events in the country during that era.
The series is written by Mohammed Al Ghiti, directed by Khaled Bahjat and costars Ezzat Al A’laili, Sumayya Al Ulfi, Sawsan Bader, Mahmoud Al Jundi and Eman – Albawaba.com
