Jordan’s Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts 2001 will feature a bevy of exciting stars.
The fest will open with a piece called Jidariya by poet Mahmoud Darwish, which will be presented as the lyrics sung by Syrian performer Bashar Zarqan at the Roman city’s north theater on July 25.
Singer Ahlam from the UAE will take the stage on July 26 at the south theater, while the Palestinian Troupe Sabreen will present folkloric performances.
Three concerts will be offered each weekend, with Asi Al Hillani singing at night on July 27 and 28. The ballet Troupe Enana will offer Hawajes Al Sham 880 and the Turkish Tounaf troupe will offer Turkish folkloric performances.
In the second week, artists including Omar Al Abdallat from Jordan, Ehab Tawfiq from Egypt and a Circassian troupe from the Jordanian National Club will offer their performances.
In the last week of the festival, Jerash will witness three concerts by George Wasouf at the south theater, while the north theater will witness the staging of the play Min Turab Wa Urjuwan (From Earth and Purple Tree) directed by Sawsan Darwazeh, as well as a musical party for the Jordanian Musical Academy and a concert for the Palestinian Ghurbal Troupe entitled Felisteen Tughanni Arabi (Palestine Sings in Arabic).
Some of the performances will take place at the Culture Place and the Royal Cultural Center in Amman, including a concert by the artist Ayda, a monologue, Al Zaroub, by Samia Al Bakri, and two performances of the play Al Nas Illy Fil Talet (People on the Third Floor). This is in addition to an evening of poetry by the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish on July 30.
Meanwhile, some changes have been made in the festival’s proposed timetable, since an evening of the Palestinian poet Samih Al Qasem was canceled in view of his participation in more than one festival. A substitute is currently being sought to conclude the festival.
Among the shining stars that will participate in the festival will be a group of artists who will be part of the committee evaluating Najeeb Mahfouz’s films, including Hussein Fahmi, Noor Al Sharif, Pusi and Nadia Lutfi - Albawaba.com
