Taiwan Wins Muscat Film Fest’s ‘Golden Dagger’ Prize

The Taiwanese film The Human Comedy won the Golden Dagger Prize for the best film at the second Muscat Film Festival during the concluding ceremony last Sunday. 

The French film Childhood Love won the Silver Dagger Prize, while the Lebanese film Ashbah Beirut (Ghosts of Beirut) won the Bronze Dagger Prize in the contest in which 14 films competed. 

The Syrian director Abdel Latif Abdel Hamid won the special jury prize for his film Qamaran Wa Zaytouna (Two Moons and an Olive), while the Egyptian actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz won the special jury prize for acting for his film al Saher (Magician). 

The jury gave a certificate to the Indian star Sumatra Satraji in appreciation for his film Dicar and gave another appreciation certificate to the Japanese film After Life. 

The award of the audience, critic and journalists went to the Egyptian film al Saher directed by Radwan al Kashef. 

The jury comprised of the Arab British critic Mohammed Ridha as head, and the Egyptian cinema academician Madkour Thabet, French director and head of Nant Continental Festival Phillip Glado, Kuwaiti director and producer Khaled al Siddiq, Syrian actress Muna Wasef and Omani poet Zaher al Ghaferi, as members. 

The French film Chocolate was screened at the concluding ceremony of the festival which was inaugurated on January 20 by screening the Iranian film The Hidden Half by Tahmineh Milani. The event witnessed the screening of 25 international and Arab films except the American and Omani films.  

The festival honored the Egyptian renowned actor Noor al Sherif and screened two of his films, al A’shikan (Two Lovers) and Nagi al Ali. It also hosted elite movie stars from the Arab countries and the whole world. These include in addition to Noor al Sherif the Egyptian director Mustafa al A’qqad, Egyptian actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Egyptian director Radwan al Kashef, Asaad Fadda, star of the French film Childhood Love and a large number of other stars -- Albawaba.com
