June heralds a comedy line-up for the books. With Russell Peters and Alan Davies in the mix, you may think it couldn’t possibly get any better...but with Varun Thakur, it just did. The superstar Indian comedian is performing the latest edition of Front Row Laughter Nights on 14 June, a comedy series that has seen the likes of Kanan Gill and Biswa Kalyan Rath take to the stage in the past.
Thakur may be young but he’s far from a fresh face in the country’s rapidly expanding comedy scene. He was among the founding fathers of one of the nation’s early stand-up YouTube sketch and improv collectives, SnG Comedy, which recently disbanded in January. Thakur is an electric performer, tirelessly touring the world, creating quirky skits for Instagram, appearing in Bollywood blockbusters like 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan', sharing top comedic gold on YouTube, hosting television shows on MTV and UTV Bindaas, and so much more.
No subject is too light, heavy or off-limits for Thakur. From quips on studying abroad to astrology, the comic blends relatable observational humour with side-tickling impersonations with infectious energy. Don’t miss his show on 14 June at Emirates International School Auditorium. You can buy tickets here.
