General Motors Middle East registered vehicle sales growth of 14% in the month of January with total sales of 8,312.

The gain was driven by an outstanding 54% increase in monthly sales in Saudi Arabia, GM Middle East’s largest market, and impressive 37% growth in Qatar.

Chevrolet recorded sales growth of 18% in January. There were also significant sales increases for GMC (up 14%) and Cadillac (up 7%).

Vehicles sales were driven by 48% sales growth of the Chevrolet Malibu and a 19% increase for the Chevrolet Traverse. GM’s full-size SUVs and full-size pickups were also key contributors to January’s results. The Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL all generated double-digit sales growth. Meanwhile, the GMC Sierra and the Chevrolet Silverado both doubled sales in January.

“January’s sales performance represents a great start to the year for GM Middle East,” said John Stadwick, President and Managing Director of GM Middle East Operations. “We have continued the momentum that we created in the final quarter of 2010. With five new vehicle launches planned for 2011, I expect GM Middle East to continue to post positive sales figures throughout the year.”

GM Middle East’s robust sales performance in January continues its recent sales success. GM Middle East posted record-breaking monthly sales in December 2010, up 42% year-on-year, which helped to increase sales in the final quarter of 2010 by 26.2%.

Five new vehicles launches are planned from GM Middle East in 2011: the all-new Chevrolet Aveo, Cruze Hatchback, Camaro Convertible, the new Chevrolet Captiva and the all-new GMC Terrain.
