Dubai It was an Emirati-French collaboration and a perfect blend of an organic perfume and traditional abaya creations.

For the launch of the first-ever organic perfume in the Middle East, Emirati abaya designer Lamia Abedin collaborated with French designer Christian David of Honres Des Pres brand.

"It all happened from a phone call asking me if I would be interested in such a collaboration. The idea was thrilling as it was quite unique and something that has not been done before." Lamia told Gulf News on the Emirati-French collaboration.

"Then Christian flew down to Dubai to discuss the project in person. Our thoughts were so similar; it was a yes from the start. The beauty of the collaboration was the trust built within; besides the identical thoughts and of course the passion for work," the Emirati designer said.

Expansion plan

Christian David told Gulf News that he is extremely happy with such a collaboration, "Indeed, we actually heard a lot about Lamia and her collection that is permanently part of French store Galleries Lafayette. Then we decided to make her part of our perfume launch in Dubai to the rest of the Middle East. And this is only the beginning. We are in fact considering expanding our business collaboration and soon launching Vamp Dubai," he said.

Lamia started thinking of portraying a collection of 15 pieces for the launch.

"Since the perfume, Vamp NY fragrance, is originally French, the inspiration behind it was New York, and being launched in Dubai, I wanted to blend these three beautiful cities all together in my creations. Since the perfume was organic, I wanted to use everything possible to merge with its story. So I used organic fabrics, faux furs and everything I was able to find them in these cities to blend together."

The collection is called We Love New York.
