Dozens of protesters have begun to march from Beirut's National Museum to protest the government's handling of the ongoing garbage crisis.
The action, called for by the You Stink group and supported by other civil society organizations, is the first large anti-government protest since the Oct. 8 rally in Downtown Beirut.
That protest descended into clashes between demonstrators and police after the former crossed a security barrier in an attempt to access a public square outside Parliament.
But Thursday's march, which is set to end in the neighborhood of Ain al-Mreisseh, is not scheduled to pass through any security zones, reducing the chances of a confrontation with police.
