ALBAWABA - At least 12 people were killed when a bus overturned on a Hungarian highway early Sunday, the Prime Minister announced in a statement.
According to Peter Magyar, a Polish-registered bus overturned, leaving 12 people killed and 10 others injured.
Peter further noted that the injured are in serious condition. State news agency MTI confirmed that the bus was carrying 57 passengers and two drivers.
The accident took place at 1:00 a.m. on the M3 highway near Mezokeresztes, east of Budapest, the police said in a statement.
According to some news agencies, the accident likely happened due to driver fatigue.
Reuters reported that the vehicle was heading towards Nyiregyhaza city when it crashed into a ditch and tipped over early on Sunday.
