ALBAWABA - Houthis announced on Sunday that they have shot down a reconnaissance drone belonging to Saudi Arabia, AFP reported.
The group's military spokesperson Yahya Saree revealed the group "successfully shot down a Turkish-made... armed reconnaissance drone belonging to the Saudi enemy while it was conducting hostile operations".
He added, "The armed forces affirm that they will confront any attempt to breach the country's sovereignty and that they possess the capabilities and potential to do so, God willing."
This comes amid an escalation between the Gulf country and the Houthi group.
Saudi-led coalition launched strikes on Yemen's city of Hodeidah, the Houthi Foreign Ministry has announced on Friday.
"By targeting Hodeidah, the Saudi regime has made ‘escalation for escalation’ the defining feature of the coming phase," the Foreign Ministry revealed in a statement.
The Houthis announced on July 20 a blockade on Saudi Arabia, as backed by leaders, saying it was an "eye for an eye" response to a strike on Sanaa's international airport a week earlier, which the group blamed on Saudi Arabia.
In response, Houthi also targeted two Saudi ships in the Red Sea, saying they violated the imposed maritime blockade.
