“Al Hassan wa Al Hussein” draws Egyptians despite Al Azhar's opposition

The drama “Al Hassan wa Al Hussein” is witnessing significant success among Egyptian viewers despite the debate that was created before it was aired. The Egyptian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs Al Azhar strongly opposed the drama stressing that it is against Islamic beliefs to portray prophets and their companions in a television drama or film.

 

Al Azhar had demanded that the drama be forbidden to be aired on Egyptian television channels and called on all Arab channels to not air the drama. Despite all attempts to stop the drama, it is witnessing large numbers of viewers especially in Egypt.

 

According to the internet website MBC.net, it is said that the commotion and attacks the drama faced before it was aired was in a way free advertisement and as a result many people were curious to watch the drama to see what the commotion was about.

 

In addition, the criticism led numerous satellite channels to strive and buy rights to air the drama on their channels to benefit from the free advertisement. Executive Director of ‘Al Maha’ production company Mohammad Al Anzi revealed that the drama is currently being aired on 15 different television channels.

 

Viewers revealed that the drama gave them a clearer picture of historical events during a point in time that was always considered to be vague.

 

The drama stars actors Rasheed Assaf, Zeenati Qudsieh, Mohammad Al Majali and many more. It is written by Mohammad AL Yasari and directed by Abd Al Ra’ouf Abu Al Khair.
