Egyptian director Majdi Ahmad Ali has begun filming the scenes of his new movie “Al Midan” (The Square), which revolves around Egypt’s January 25 Revolution that began in Tahrir Square in the heart of Cairo and spread across Egypt.

Most of the film is actual footage taken during the mass popular protests against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak that ended with his stepping down from power.

The film tells the story of a popular surgeon that is focused on his career, away from political activism. The surgeon discovers that his small family has been taking part in the protests that erupted and he then becomes a vital player in helping those injured.
