A Coptic lawyer has filed a lawsuit against the makers of the television drama “Dawaran Shubra” based on the accusations that the drama insults female Coptic Christians and portrays them as being ill mannered and characterized with bad and unethical behaviors.
The lawyer stated that he was shocked when he watched the drama and realized that the Christian female role was played by actress Nirmeen Maher, who throughout the drama wears sleazy outfits revealing most of her body and appears as a bad girl.
It was added that having the actors playing roles of Coptic Christians wear pendants of the cross the entire time is not realistic of an actual Christian, stressing that the makers of the drama did not fully understand the life of a true Coptic Christian before producing the drama.
Director of the drama Khaled Al Hajar has defended the drama stressing that his wife is a Coptic Christian, which means he has a firsthand look at the life of an actual Coptic and knows the facts about the way they live their daily lives. He added that half of the cast of the drama are Coptic Christians and producer of the drama is also a Coptic and all of them would have said something if they felt the drama insulted Coptic Christians.
According to the internet website MBC.net, Al Hajar also defended the image of Nirmeen in the drama and stressed that the lawyer has not take it on himself to watch all the events of the drama until the end to realize that Nirmeen’s character is not a bad one.
The drama stars Egyptian actors Afaf Shu’ayb, Dalal Abd AL Azeez, Sami Al Adel, Haytham Ahmad Zaki, Kuki and Mohammad Ramadan. The story of the drama is written by Amro Al Dali.
