Syrian Sulaf Fawakhirji revealed that she turned down her nomination to star in the new Egyptian television drama “Fatah Min Al Sharq” (A Girl from the East), which talks about the life of girl who worked as a spy for Israel in the era of late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat.
Sulaf stated that her refusal to play the role is due to the fact that it negatively portrays the Circassian (Sharkas) ethnic group, whom she considers to be her friends and like family.
According to the internet website MBC.net, on a different note, Sulaf denied recently circulating rumors that she and her husband Syrian director/actor Wael Ramadan are encountering marital problems. She stressed that they are living a very happy married life and share a wonderful understanding and mutual respect.
Sulaf stated that she is surprised that the press would publish lies on her behalf without contacting her at first.
