We've got to hand it to Ornana Films. They sure know how to make a war scene come to life.
Truth be told we haven't experienced for ourselves what it's like to fight in combat, but the nine-minute animated short film "Confusion Through Sand" sure has a way of making us viewers feel like we have.
The small production company animated scenes that were hand-drawn on recycled pieces of paper that are pretty intense at times, with other moments just downright horrific, but it tells well what many men go through in combat.
Some would say it doesn't glorify war or make it feel like just a video game. Instead, it reveals the deep confusion the millitary undergo in very difficult situations. And while it does follow an American soldier, there is no real hero of the situation.
Ornana Films reports that vets are grateful for the dialogue-less animation's way of bridging the gap of experience of the war in Iraq with their families. Attendees of international festivals are likewise loving the film. Hiroshima is the latest city it stopped in, while, currently, it's also being shared with a broader television audience by its inclusion in a PBS documentary titled "The Kill Team" about US war crimes in Iraq.
