A school in Palestine has been closed down by the Israeli authorities for alleged ‘incitement’ in it’s teaching resources. The school, which is located the occupied East Jerusalem town of Sur Bahir deny the claims of incitement and claim that they were teaching the same Palestinian curriculum used in all schools throughout Jerusalem.
In protest the children and their parents protested against the decision to close down the school by holding a class on the streets.

According to the The Times of Israel the school was actually shut down for being a “Hamas front,” after several months of investigation by Israel’s Education Ministry, Jerusalem police, and Israeli intelligence, the Shin Bet. They claim that the school was established by Hamas wand taught content which threatens the sovereignty of Israel and branded them as a terror organisation.
Education rights of Palestinians are hugely under threat as it is. A 2016 report found that schools in the occupied East Jerusalem receive less than half of the funds that the Jerusalem Municipality transfers to West Jerusalem Jewish schools. The decision to close down Al Nukhba school in Sur Bahir should be condemned heavily as yet another tactic from the Israeli authorities to suppress the Palestinian peoples.
