A Palestinian man currently residing in Gaza brought together a plethora of scrap parts and built a replica of a 1927 Mercedes Gazelle, according to an article published by Reuters earlier this week.  Munir Shindi, 26, caught a glimpse of a Mercedes Gazelle when he was working as a mechanic in the Gulf, and was determined to one day own the classic vehicle.

After he returned to Gaza, he began to gather parts and build the replica vehicle. Shindi says that he wanted to prove to himself that he could build the Gazelle and show that nothing is impossible. He was able to complete his personal challenge after two years of dismantling used cars and importing cosmetic pieces from the United States.

When he took the finished product for a spin on a main road in Gaza with two of his sons last Sunday, onlookers were stunned by the display. Shindi’s final step is to get official licensing from the government in the Gaza strip so he may drive it like any other car. There are 70,000 cars licensed in the Gaza strip, and all must pass through Israeli customs.
