Two explosions rocked Turkey’s Istanbul Ataturk Airport late Tuesday evening, leaving 10 dead and dozens wounded. The attack left many on social media surprised that such a devastating attack took place at the airport, known for its top-notch security.
Anyone who’s travelled through Ataturk Airport-one of the largest international hubs in the world-knows that security is a top priority there, and among the top in the Middle East. Fox News’ Shephard Smith said that security at Ataturk is “As tight as I’ve personally witnessed outside of Ben Gurion in Israel,” in a live broadcast. Many similarly took to Twitter to express their dismay at the attack in light of this.
Very sad events in #Istanbul. A reminder that you can have the best security, but nothing is impenetrable
