Gunmen bombed an Egyptian gas pipeline in the Sinai peninsula on Monday, cutting supplies to Israel and Jordan, a security official said. It was the third time in five months that such incident is taking place.
The pipeline is located in the Bir al-Abd area, 80 kilometres from the north Sinai town of El-Arish. According to AFP, there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Jordan, which buys 95 percent of its energy needs, imports about 240 million cubic feet of Egyptian natural gas a day, or 80 percent of its electricity requirements. Egypt supplies about 40 percent of Israel's natural gas which is used to produce electricity.
