Three people died on Saturday in clashes between Tunisian security forces and youths rioting in central Tunis, an Interior Ministry official told Reuters. The official said another 12 had been wounded in the clashes. He said about 100 people had been detained.

Security forces had fired warning shots and tear gas at the anti-government rally, and protesters responded by hurling stones, AFP said.

Tens of thousands of protesters had taken to the streets on Friday demanding the resignation of the Tunisian interim prime minister who was part of the regime of president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali ousted January 14.
