MAPEI, the leading global manufacturer of adhesives, sealants and chemical products for buildings, has announced that it is currently showcasing a wide range of its products, some of which were used in the construction of Ferrari World, the new leisure theme park on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island, during its participation at the Big 5 exhibition being held from November 22 to 25, 2010, at the World Trade Centre in Dubai. MAPEI further revealed that specially trained technical experts are available at the MAPEI stand 7E291 to provide visitors with on the spot technical advice on correct material selection and specification as well as installation and finishing.

MAPEI products have been extensively used for various applications in the construction of the Ferrari World leisure theme park. MAPEI supplied waterproofing materials that covered 25,000 square metres using Mapelastic Smart, which is a two-component, high flexibility cementitious coating for waterproofing concrete surfaces in permanent contact with water. Mapei additionally utilised Mapenet 150, which is an alkali-resistant fibre glass mesh used to reinforce waterproof protection layers, anti-fracture membranes and cementitious smoothing and levelling layers. However, to provide full integrity, corners and penetrations received Mapeband, a rubber tape with alkali-resistant fabric specifically designed for cementitious waterproofing systems and liquid membranes. The waterproofing system was finally overcoated with Elastocolor Waterproof, a flexible, water-based acrylic resin-based paint to provide the aesthetic appearance required.

These materials were used mainly for water feature waterproofing. In addition, MAPEI supplied the project with more than 16 other products including MAPEI's adhesives & grouts ranges that were used in different applications type such as marble, ceramic, glass mosaic and porcelain.

Laith Haboubi, Business Development Director of IBS-MAPEI, said: "The Big 5 serves as a perfect extension to our marketing initiatives in the UAE and this is the sixth time we are participating in the event. The Big 5 has been an effective platform to interact with customers and potential clients, while allowing us to offer our own insights about the latest developments and new trends in the industry. Moreover, the event is certainly a very effective venue to present the latest milestones of MAPEI, including our role in the development of Ferrari World, the newest landmark unveiled in Abu Dhabi. MAPEI products have been successfully used in the construction of the world-class theme park and we want to demonstrate the superior performance of these products to other potential clients through our participation at the Big 5."

"Around 80 per cent of all MAPEI products that we are showcasing at the Big 5 are manufactured locally in Dubai. This is another very important strategic advantage that we want to emphasise to our customers and visitors of the Big 5 exhibition. Moreover, we also want to create greater awareness about the complete range of value-added services that we are offering with the establishment of MAPEI's dedicated customer-support facility," added Haboubi.

MAPEI has been well known for its range of adhesives and grouts that are used to install ceramic and natural stone, while the company has also been gaining momentum with its other products, including adhesives for other finishes such as wooden, PVC and sports flooring, and also its recently launched building line which includes some of the most technically advanced mortars on the market.

Aside from Ferrari World, MAPEI has also been involved in some of the most challenging construction projects in the region, including the Armani Hotel in Burj Khalifa, Emirates Palace Hotel, the Grand Mosque, Qasr El Sarab Resort, Atlantis Hotel on Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, and Dubai International Airport's Terminals 1, 2 and 3.
