Basic policies overlooked by Lebanese political parties

Lebanon suffers from a medley of social issues, many of which could be tackled by a functional government.  However, in a country whose very politics are divided by confessional lines, sects tend to simply vote within their group - rendering it useless for political parties to urge any sort of policy.

The emerging military dimension to the Qatari-Turkish relationship

Turkey and Qatar recently signed a military agreement, an indicator of the two countries’ increasingly close relationship.  Will the Qatari-Turkish cooperation be the beginning of a new regional trend, or is it simply an “old school” example of a Gulf state seeking out alliances to attain military security?
