Where were the intellectuals during the Arab Spring?  

Since the end of 2010, Arab thinkers, artists, and journalists have been commenting and analyzing the recent Arab sociopolitical movements, addressing a whole range of issues—among them the question of the place, or the lack thereof, of intellectuals in these movements. This question stems from two phenomena: Firstly, the fact that Arab intellectuals failed to predict these upheavals; and secondly, the absence of intellectual leaders in the unfolding events.
