A visiting Iranian official on Friday gave Lebanese President Emile Lahoud a message on the regional violence from President Mohammad Khatami and invited Lahoud to visit Tehran.

But Iranian Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammad Sadr said he did not speak to Lahoud about the possibility of Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed Lebanese militant movement, swapping three Israelis it captured last month for Arab prisoners held by Israel.

The United Nations has asked Iran to use its influence over Hezbollah to free the Israeli captives.

Sadr, who arrived in Lebanon on Thursday after a visit to Syria, is due to meet later with Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, along with Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri and Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri -- BEIRUT (AFP)
