Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday pardoned a large number of prisoners on the 24th anniversary of the Islamic revolution.
The official IRNA news agency did not provide details on how many detainees would benefit from the amnesty, but anyone who has already served a quarter of a maximum five-year sentence is to be set free.
Also included are detained women with children and those sentenced when they were under 18, women over the age of 50 and men over the age of 65.
In addition, other sentences were commuted under Khamenei's decree for the anniversary of the 1979 revolution, the agency added. (Albawaba.com)
