A suicide bomber has killed at least 40 people in an attack Thursday on an Afghan police convoy outside Kabul, officials say.

A pair of bombs exploded near vehicles carrying cadets returning from a graduation ceremony on the western edge of the city.

Haji Mohammad Musa Khan, Paghman District Governor, told the BBC several others had been injured. The Taliban quickly claimed responsibility for the attack.

Just over a week ago another attack on a bus killed 14 people, including Nepali security guards working for the Canadian embassy.
