Oman’s leader Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed will inaugurate on Saturday the country’s council [parliament] for the years 2001-2003, reported Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
The council comprises of two divisions: the state council and the sharia' council, said the agency.
The state council witnessed the introduction of five women for the first time during election in September, and consists of 31 members, while the shura council consists of 82 members.
Omani officials said the formation of the state and shura councils would contribute to the enrichment of the democratic process in Oman, said the agency. They added the new members in the two councils would take part in formulating the legislations and laws as well as for the economic and political decision making process in order to meet the ambitions of the Omani people in the coming years.
They said that the participation of women in the state council comes in harmony with their active accomplishments in the society in the past 30 years, a matter, which reflects the democratic process in the country, said the agency – Albawaba.com
