Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Muallem on Thursday is making a trip to Oman in the first visit to an Arab state since the war began in 2011, Reuters reported.
Oman-based al-Watan said there may also be a meeting among top representatives from Syria, Oman, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Muallem will be traveling from Iran, which has been a main backer of the regime during the Syrian civil war. He also met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, a representative to the Middle East.
Unlike other Gulf countries, Oman has not cut diplomatic ties to Syria since the revolution four years ago.
