ALBAWABA - NASA's newly spotted asteroid, named CAQTDL2, is set to hit the Earth today as specifically reported at 17:08 UTC time.

According to sources, the CAQTDL2 asteroid is about 1 metre and will be hitting east of the Philippines, near Luzon Island today.

Meanwhile, as some said they are afraid after hearing the news of an asteroid hitting the Earth, experts assured them that it will cause no major effect.

A video showing the asteroid passing through the sky was posted on social media with many people describing the pretty footage.

However, they added that it will burn up in the Earth's atmosphere and is likely to be seen as bright as the moon in the night sky and will probably end up in the sea.

The asteroid was caught earlier today by the NASA-funded Catalina Sky Survey and given the name "CAQTDL2".

Data revealed that the space object is due to strike Earth at around 16:45 GMT, or 17:45 in London time.

What is an asteroid?

Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun. Although asteroids orbit the Sun like planets, they are much smaller than planets.
