According to The Guardian in 2019, hikers wishing to climb Everest need to undergo intense training programmes for a year, have high-quality gear, and experience in climbing at high altitudes. Additionally, they are also expected to have permits from the Nepali government and get a medical check-up before being allowed to climb the mountain legally.

The Nepalese panel, which includes government officials, experienced hikers, and agencies, was formed after the government was criticized for allowing anyone with $11,000 to climb the terrifying mountain, despite warnings about its dangers.

A member of the panel said, "Climbers died due to altitude sickness, heart attack, exhaustion or weaknesses, and not due to traffic jams," stressing the importance of training and adherence to the rules.

According to a blog by Expedreview, hikers who wish to climb Mount Everest in 2026 are looking to spend between $33,590 and $129,995, depending on multiple factors such as the type of expedition and the luxury level of the trip.

Reports also revealed that the permit price has increased to $15,000 due to logistics and inflation.
