ALBAWABA - Pictures and videos of ATMs in Iran have circulated over a note left that people are currently unable to withdraw money.

Many media outlets claimed that Iran yesterday was targeted by a major cyberattack that affected bank systems across the country.

Iran International reportedly announced on X on Wednesday that the Central Bank of Iran and other banks experienced a major cyberattack.

It allegedly said: "A major cyberattack has targeted the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) and several other banks, leading to widespread disruptions in the country’s banking system, @IranIntl has learned. Initial assessments indicate this could be one of the largest cyberattacks ever against Iranian state infrastructure."

The Times of Israel allegedly reported that Iran International’s Israel correspondent Babak Itzhaki claimed that authorities in Iran have been trying to cover up the cyberattack for several hours.

He also claimed that the hackers gained many important information about some Iranian authorities.

Despite allegations and unconfirmed reports by some media outlets, the Iranian government websites and media offices have not made any announcement regarding the alleged cyberattack against its banks.

On August 14, X accounts shared a note left on ATMs in many places, reading in Farsi that withdrawing money is currently unavailable. Many claimed that the ATM note included the information that the money in banks is now placed on hold to be used by the government amid a possible "war with Israel".
