Israel wants to bring in 5,800 Indian Jews from the Bnei Menashe

ALBAWABA - The Israeli government recently approved a proposal to relocate 5,800 Indian Jews known as the Bnei Menashe from the northeastern region to Israel by 2030, according to several reports. 

According to the Times of Israel, 1,200 members of the Bnei Menashe community are expected to immigrate by the end of 2026. Moreover, 5,800 additional people will immigrate to Israel by the end of 2030;

The Israeli news outlet also outlined that those immigrating to Israel will settle in Nof HaGalil and other occupied cities in the north.

The move aims to reunite Bnei Menashe Indians currently residing in the northeastern region of India with those who immigrated to Israel over the past two decades. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the move as "an important and Zionist decision that will also strengthen the North and the Galilee."

Reports indicate that over 4,000 members of the Bnei Menashe immigrated to Israel over the past two decades, with many settling in northern cities and others in the West Bank, in occupied Palestine.

The Jewish Agency released a statement that read, "This government decision reflects the shared responsibility of the State of Israel and The Jewish Agency for a national effort that is meaningful, values-driven, and deeply moving."

It outlined further, "Our extensive professional involvement in planning, preparation, transport, and absorption is central to ensuring the success of this initiative."
