ALBAWABA - Ali Larijani, Iran's secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Monday along with other senior Iranian officials. But before his death, a suspicious man appeared behind him, raising controversy of being an Israeli spy.

Following Israel’s announcement of the assassination of the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, a post by the former spokesperson for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sparked controversy on social media.

David Keyes, known for his satirical posts about Iranian officials, posted a picture of Larijani on his X account a few days ago, with a man standing behind him.

He commented sarcastically, "I'm totally blanking on his name, but this guy behind Larijani wrote the most brilliant exegesis on Abraham Joshua Heschel I've ever read when I was at BCI at Alonim 26 years ago. Changed my life."

Then, on Tuesday, he reposted the same post, writing, "Now I remember his name! Chafar Peret... a wonderful man. Now I understand what he was doing in Iran," implying that he was an Israeli spy who may have provided information leading to Larijani's assassination. The word "Chafar Peret" means "mole" in Hebrew and is used metaphorically to refer to a secret agent or spy.

Meanwhile, some X users have suggested that the man in the picture was indeed behind Larijani's assassination.

Before Larijani's death, he posted a photo and said, "Larijani is next. How do I know? Because the guy circled in red, Haba Bator, is one of our top agents and happens to be my best friend. Haba just returned from Iran this morning and, with Mojtaba dead, Larijani is going to have a very interesting week."
