ALBAWABA - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has been rebuked after a photo of him sleeping during the opening event of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Giza, Egypt.

A photo circulated on the internet showing Abbas, also known as Abu Mazen, sleeping during the speech of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The picture went viral, with many mocking the president for falling asleep in such an important event. One person commented, "Wherever the guy goes, he falls asleep, but still he always shows up, even if he's gonna fall asleep on his buddy's duty."

An X user jockingly said, "Preserve him in the museum." A person said that he slept "even though the lighting and music might wake up the mummies themselves."

Another, in contrast, supported him, saying, "If I were him, I would do the same thing lol."

On Friday, the Palestinian president arrived in Cairo to participate in the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, in the presence of world leaders and dignitaries, in a historic cultural event.
