A viral photo of a man who looks like the late Sultan of Oman ignited a debate on whether the man actually looks like the greatly beloved leader of the Gulf Sultanate or not.

Translation: "Omani social media users have shared photos of the identical lookalike of the late Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed; founder of modern Oman."

Despite many comments expressing shock over "unbelievable resemblance" between the man identified as Mansour Bin Khalfan Al Foury and Bin Saeed, many others disagreed, saying that wearing similar traditional clothing and having a beard is the only reason people are finding a link between the two Omani men.

Translation: "Sheikh Mansour Bin Khalfan Al Foury looks almost the same as our father Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed, may he rest in peace"

Translation: "I thought it was Sultan Qaboos..."

Yet, many Omanis took the chance to remember the Sultan often dubbed as "the founding father of modern Oman," repeating a well-known Arabic proverb about everyone having at least 40 lookalikes.

Translation: "I personally don't see any resemblance. May the Sultan Qaboos rest in peace"

Sultan Qaboos passed away last January after having ruled Oman for 50 years, being the longest-serving leader both in the Middle East and the Arab world.
