Syrian man arrested in Germany over burning 2 houses and holding machete

ALBAWABA - A Syrian man was recently arrested in Essen, Germany on Sunday, Sep. 29, 2024, after burning two houses and attempting murder while holding a machete in a public area, according to DW. 

According to local German police, the 41-year-old man was also caught in a separate incident where he crashed a van into two shops. The fire department in Essen received a phone call at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday saying that a fire broke out in an apartment in the city.

The fire caused the injury of twelve people of whom were eight children with two being deemed in critical condition after being transferred to the hospital. The fire was successfully put down by the department in question. 

After causing the arson, the Syrian man was caught by local police after crashing a van he was driving into two shops. According to the police, the man was reportedly in possession of a machete, knife, shovels, and poles.

By the time of writing this article, police are still investigating the motivation behind the man's crimes including suspected murder and arson. 

A video of the incident in question quickly swarmed social media showcasing a man coming out of a can while holding a machete and going into the store he hit with his van.
