ALBAWABA - Horrific scenes are emerging from Rafah city in Gaza, days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to launch a ground invasion on the last "safe zone" in the Gaza Strip.

In a call with US President Joe Biden, Netanyahu was urged not to start a military operation in Rafah city “without a credible and executable plan for ensuring the safety of and support for the more than one million people sheltering there”.

Al Jazeera reported that about 1.4 million Palestinians, or more than half of Gaza’s population have fled to Rafah, which is near Israel’s border with Egypt. Furthermore, the United Nations said that a quarter of the population in Rafaj is facing starvation.

'There’s no safe place in Gaza': Horror grips Rafah city amid Israeli airstrikes

Israel has intensified attacks on Rafah city following the plan of a possible ground invasion of the city. According to health officials in Gaza, Israeli airstrikes on Monday have killed dozens of people.

Al Jazeera reported the death toll following the predawn strikes on Monday has varied as AFP said that the attacks on Rafah city "around 100", while Reuters reported that 37 had been killed.

Horrific photos and videos have been shared on social media showing the results of Israeli attacks on Rafah. A pro-Palestinian activist posted videos of the bodies of children killed in the latest aggression attacks on Rafah.

Nonetheless, a photo of a killed Palestinian boy hanged on a building's wall in a horrible way sparked wide anger on social media and triggered questions about possible massacres that will take place if a ground operation is carried out in Rafah city.
