ALBAWABA - Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Assistant Dean Laura Sosh-Lightsy was reportedly fired from her role after celebrating the killing of American political activist Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, who was a close friend of US President Donald Trump, was shot dead during an event at Utah Valley University. Videos of the distressing incident flooded social media as many offered their condolences to his family and loved ones.
However, due to his controversial stance in politics about abortion rights, the Gaza war, and the advocacy of guns, many individuals celebrated his death on social media, including MTSU Assistant Dean Laura Sosh-Lightsy.
Laura Sosh-Lightsy took to her Facebook account and wrote, "Looks like Ol' Charlie spoke his fate into existence. Hate begets hate. Zero sympathy."
University employee fired for celebrating Charlie Kirk assassination
Many users tagged MTSU's social media accounts in hopes of drawing their attention to Laura's comments, which called for her immediate termination.
In response, MTSU President Sidney A. McPhee released a lengthy statement that read:
"An MTSU employee today offered inappropriate and callous comments on social media concerning the horrific and tragic murder of Charlie Kirk."
She further outlined, "The comments by this employee, who worked in a position of trust directly with students, were inconsistent with our values and have undermined the university’s credibility and reputation with our students, faculty, staff and the community at large. This employee has been fired effective immediately. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Kirk family."
Upon hearing about his killing, US President Donald Trump took to his official Truth Social account with a statement regarding Charlie Kirk's assassination.
The US President wrote, "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"
