Philips wins contract to support ‘Sustainable Light’ program in Mexico

Philips announced that it has been awarded a contract by the Mexican Ministry of Energy, (SENER), and the Electric Energy Savings Fund (FIDE) to replace 22.9 million light bulbs with energy efficient bulbs in 2011. This is part of the first phase of the government program ‘Sustainable Light’, which was announced by Mexico’s Federal Government at COP 16 in Cancun.
The ‘Sustainable Light’ program consists of an initiative to change traditional light bulbs and replace them with energy efficient bulbs for free in more than 11 million households across the country. A new bidding process is expected to be conducted for the replacement of a similar number of light bulbs in 2012.
“Philips’ global expertise in the execution of this type of project, combined with our leadership in developing sustainable lighting technologies, enabled us to deliver an integrated proposal that met the needs and standards established by the Government of Mexico,” said Sergio Villalon, General Manager of Philips Lighting in Mexico.
Energy efficient light bulbs will significantly reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions associated with the generation of electricity. As the global leader in lighting, Philips offers a wide choice of energy-efficient solutions for households and cities around the world. With increasing awareness of the need to protect the environment and growing demand for energy-efficient solutions, Philips will continue to develop innovative and sustainable lighting solutions adapted to people’s needs.
