The series started in 2011 in an effort to promote tourism. Each year, the route is revised and extended. The first rally covered a total distance exceeding 1,700 km.  This year riders will tackle a 2,725 km tour packed with tricks and treats as the route passes through Egypt's largest cities, coastal resorts, historical sites, deserts and the lush Nile Valley.

“It is quite challenging to ride few thousands kilometers on motorcycles and scooters in a challenging cross-country rally, especially if that involves different terrains,” Ahmad Elzoghby, official spokesperson of the challenge, said in a press release, “Cross Egypt Challenge is meant to bring global media attention to Egypt and to confidently announce that Egypt is safe for tourism.”

Got your interest? Riders who are up to the challenge can find guidelines for participation on the event website. Registration closes on September 10.
