Tens of thousands of Indian farmers started a 12-hour general strike, shutting down shops, transportations, and markets, across the country in protest against the government latest reforms, laws.
The strike was decided after failed talks between government and farmers for 5 days as the former refused offer to amend contentious provisions of the new farm laws, which deregulate crop pricing.
Farmers on the other hand, have stuck to their demand for total repeal. They chanted slogans such as "Long live farmers unity" and carried banners with some reading "No farmers, no food."
Moreover, in Singhu, farmers have also blocked highways, demonstrators burned an effigy on which the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some Indian corporate leaders while chanting slogans including "Modi has died!"
