Rafa Benitez has said his Napoli team will visit Qatar in the future during a winter tour to enjoy the facilities at the Aspire Academy. Napoli defeated Juventus in a penalty shootout to win their second SuperCoppa TIM in Doha on Monday.
Played at a packed Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium with over 14,000 spectators like thean away team, Benitez and his team won the heart of over 14,000 Doha fans following his team's resilience and determination as they came back twice to level the tie against the reigning Serie A champions.
"We were comfortable here and have made good friendship in Qatar especially with Aspire. There's a possibility in the future that we will come here again perhaps on a training tour," the former Liverpool and Chelsea coach said.
"I have friends at the Aspire Academy and know what they are capable of in terms of organisation. It has been a great experience. It was enjoyable to work with Qatari experts and utilizing these facilities is something Napoli and other teams should think," Benitez added.
In one of his memorable night as a coach, Benitez said,"It was an amusing game of football and one of the best games of my life, as to win against a side like Juventus is remarkable."
"I am happy for Rafael, I am happy for Higuain he made the difference, I am happy for everyone who believed in us. ... It's my 12th trophy, my 10th cup, but what matters is that we won this for Naples and our supporters."
"We are on the right path and you have seen a team that is determined and went beyond its capabilities. In 2014 where is Napoli? We are doing well and I can't point where we are now in terms of percentage. We deserve something big like this. The victory was achieved after regulation time because we had the courage to stay on and win," he added.
Benitez who has been under pressure after failing to qualify for the Champions League then seeing his side fall 12 points behind leaders Juventus in Serie A wll have some reprieve after this cup success. The match had ended 2-2 after extra time with Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain twice cancelling out strikes from Argentine compatriot Carlos Tevez.
The ensuing shootout started portentously for both teams with Tevez and Jorginho failing to score. Both teams then scored each of their next five penalties, before missing the next two.
Then Kalidou Koulibaly put Napoli 6-5 ahead and Simone Padoin's kick was brilliantly stopped by goalkeeper Rafael Cabral who finally brought the shootout to an end giving Napoli fans to celebrate a memorable upset victory.
While Rafa Benitez's side rejoiced at winning their second Super Cup, their first triumph in the competition since 1990, Massimiliano Allegri's team will rue their chances, missing out in a third straight in the competition.
