Hady Habib etched his name into tennis history on Sunday during the 2025 Australian Open. The Lebanese player triumphed over China’s Bu Yunchaokete with a scoreline of 7-6(4), 6-4, 7-6(6) in the first round.

With this victory, Hady Habib became the first player representing Lebanon to win a main-draw singles match at a Grand Slam tournament in the professional era.

After clinching his decisive victory on Court 13 at Melbourne Park, the 26-year-old raised his racquet to the crowd and proudly held up the Lebanese flag. This iconic moment symbolized the magnitude of his achievement and resonated as a point of national pride.

Hady Habib’s Inspiring Tennis Journey

Born in Houston, Texas, Hady moved back to Lebanon with his family at the age of six. Later, he returned to the United States to pursue his development as a junior tennis player. Habib previously represented Lebanon at the Paris Olympics, where he faced Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz in the first round.

Last year, he became the first Lebanese player to win a title on the ATP Challenger Tour after his triumph in Chile, further solidifying his position as a pioneer for Lebanese tennis.
