Can Manchester United still earn a Europa League spot?
Can Manchester United still earn a Europa League spot?

It has surely been a rough season for Manchester United team so far. Sitting in seventh spot in the standings, five points shy of Tottenham, at the very least David Moyes is pressured to secure sixth in order for the Red Devils to be able to have a shot at qualifying for the 2014-15 UEFA Europa League.

It is ironic that Manchester United, whom are so used to easy qualification to the European elite competition in the Champions League, now have to find themselves battling for a chance to qualify for the second-tier of European competitions.

Even that task is not an easy one with six matches now left to the end of English Premier League campaign, Manchester United should bounce back to their unbeatable record, or if not, hope for sixth placed Tottenham to drop six or more points in their remaining games to give United a chance and some room for error.

The task is possible though considering the fixture list of Manchester United and Tottenham. Although any slip up by Red Devils will hinder their chances, but their most difficult opponent in remaining games is Everton. The Toffees have an impressive record under Roberto Martinez and they look determined to keep it that way, even against Manchester United.

If the Red Devils can survive that match and secure a victory, they would be in better position to win against Newcastle, Norwich, Sunderland, Hull and Southampton. Saturday's victory over Villa was a great step in the right direction.

Tottenham face a strong opponent in Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield. The Reds have no plans to give away any points to any club at this critical time and with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City all dropping points Saturday they can reclaim the top of the league against Spurs. If Tottenham lose the battle against Liverpool, and slip up against likes of Stoke City, whom are on a great run of form at the moment or charging Southamton, then United can secure Europa League qualification.

At this point with the flawed defending that we have seen from Moyes' in recent weeks, the chances are unlikely that Manchester United could win all their remaining matches. Therefore, their fans would have to cross their fingers that Tottenham give away multiple points to their future opponents.
