UEFA president Michel Platini on Monday said he believes the forthcoming FIFA presidential election in May is the ideal chance to bring change to the world governing body.
"I think that it is a very nice opportunity to open a debate for democratic reasons in the world of football and FIFA needs new ideas, a new programme," Platini said in a video interview published by UEFA.
"Let's see the programme of the four candidates but I think it is important for football there is a change in FIFA."
Current FIFA president Joseph Blatter is seeking to win a fifth term in the election which takes place in Zurich on May 29.
Former Portuguese international Luis Figo, Netherlands Football Association chairman Michael van Praag and Jordan Football Association president Prince Ali bin al Hussein are the other candidates. All three have been backed by various European federations.
Platini himself decided against running for FIFA president but is unopposed in standing again for the UEFA presidency next week in Vienna.
"Perhaps it is not my time for the moment to go to FIFA," he said. "We will see one day if I go or if I don't go."
