A worker has died in a "work-related" incident at a stadium in Qatar, local organizers for the 2022 World Cup said late Saturday.
"Following an incident on Al Wakrah Stadium on Saturday morning, a full investigation is underway to determine the factors which contributed to the death of one of our workers," the local committee said in a statement.
No details were given about the worker or the incident though the committee said the family had been contacted and offered support.
Qatar relies heavily on migrant workers to build infrastructure and stadiums for the World Cup in six years time and conditions have frequently been criticized by human rights groups.
This is reportedly the first "work-related" death at a stadium though others have died in non-work incidents at World Cup grounds.
