A fragile cease-fire failed to stop fighting in Baghdad's Sadr City where the latest clashes between Shiite gunmen and U.S.-backed Iraqi forces killed 11 men and injured 19, Iraqi hospital officials said Tuesday.

U.S. troops killed three Shiite gunmen who attacked them with small arms and rocket launchers in Baghdad's Shiite slum, despite a reported cease-fire, the U.S. military said Monday.

Gunmen were withdrawing from the streets and shops were reopening on the first day of a cease-fire between Shiite militants and U.S.-backed Iraqi forces following two months of intense clashes.
